    Migration and Food Packaging

The impact of the EuPIA Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006 sets out rules on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). This regulation has an annex referring to printing inks applied to the non-food contact side of primary food packaging. It is well known that migration can occur within reels or stacks of printed material, and that ink and coating components (such as the photoinitiators used in UV curing products) transfer to the food contact side of the packaging.

PSP Technical Services Limited have extensive experience in dealing with migration and the issues surrounding it and can advise on the GMP controls to apply within the printing process to help ensure compliance with the legislation.

Migration of chemicals can occur in a wide variety of circumstances and through both primary and secondary packaging. PSP Technical Services Limited can help you to ensure that you comply with both the spirit and the letter of the legislation

Migration testing is a key element of this compliance - whether it is a periodic test of the integrity of the process or a more frequent check to ensure compliance with the migration limits for the individual components.

PSP Technical Services Limited have in the last two years, worked closely with a team of highly experienced analytical chemists to develop a low cost and rapid response analytical test to confirm compliance with the legislation in force.
